Oxford City Council has been working with Strategic Leisure Limited since 2003. A document on Oxford City Councils web site mentions the future of our ice rink.
4 Years on the future of the ice rink mentioned in the document is under fire. What is mentioned in the document seems to be part of a bigger plan that Oxford City Council has for the City in what it calls the Oxford Local Plan 2001-2016 and West End Area Action Plan.
From what I could make of the documents the ice rink will either be replaced by a concert hall, conference facilities, council offices and affordable housing OR redeveloped OR moved to another location. Read the documents for yourself and let me know what you make of them.
1000 Signatures - 28 May 2007
In less than one week our petition has recieved over 1000 signatures supporting the future of oxford's ice rink. Please tell all your friends about what is happening and ask them to sign our petition, we need all the support we can get!!!
What is going on - 20 May 2007
Oxford City Council are looking to close our ice rink and are trying to determine whether an ice rink is needed in Oxford.
We need everyone who uses Oxford's ice rink to sign our petition and urgently contact Srategic Leisure Limited to let them know how important the ice rink is to all of us.
If the ice rink is forced to close for environemtal reasons we need to ensure that a new one opens before the current one closes else we will be left with no ice rink within easy travelling distance.

The Future of Oxford Ice Rink
We have appointed leisure management consultancy Strategic Leisure Limited to undertake a feasibility study into the future of the Oxford Ice Rink.
As part of this study, we will be undertaking a wide ranging consultation exercise over the next few weeks, to ensure that everyone in Oxford has the opportunity to express their views and input into the study.
We will be in the Oxford Ice Rink administering a questionnaire survey on Thu 10 May, Fri 11 May, and Sat 12 May. There will be discount vouchers on offer for everyone taking part in the survey! (This portion of the study is now completed)
In addition to this, we are operating a dedicated FREE PHONE line, so you can contact us to give us your views on the need for an ice rink in Oxford. The line is open from 09:00-17:00 Mon-Fri, however there is a dedicated answer phone service 24 hours a day. You can call us on 0800 169 5549.
